I hate the Dover buzz on the indicator, it gives me a fright and hurts my ears, although some have a nice beep

Maybe ‘good-for-nothing’ yobs (Messed up teenagers, they are normally quite nice) called it at 2 & 1? Anyway, Maybe the motors starting up because of an error with the lift-to-motor control interface? It’s telling the motor that the lift wants to move (When in actual fact it’s not) and when the call button is pressed it finally becomes correct and says that the lift isn’t moving! The doors close and the problem begins again.

lol @ “do you hear that sound?”

This is another common problem which blows all the so-called “environmental credentials” of hydraulics out the water.

  4. ElevatorsinLA says:

Probably because of the elevator fan in the motor room

  5. redneckelevatorman says:

Generally most modern hydraulic elevators have what is called viscosity which is a bypass function of the valve which allows oil to flow thru the pump and bypass section of the valve assembly. This is done to keep the hydraulic oil at operating temperature to aid in final leveling into the floor level.Oil temperature is the main cause of most intermittent leveling problems,as the oil heats up it expands.Viscosity removes cold oil leveling issues from the equation.Motor comes on to turn the pump.

Can we get an update on this elevator? Is the motor still running when it’s stopped? Are they still doing lots of construction work on the parking garage?

That is weird, though. I never heard a hydraulic motor run when it’s not moving.
f Railfan02 is right about THIS case, there’s another big problem somewhere! That elevator does not have a constantly-running motor, like it does now (per older vids of this elevator).

  21. Railfan02 says:

I’ll tell you all why the motor runs while the elevator is not moving. It is to keep it level at whichever floor it’s on. Since it’s hydraulic, that means there is pressure to lose. If that pressure is lost, the elevator will go down below the level. The motor runs to avoid that.

  22. ElevatorMan2012 says:

This is so stupid of whoever from Dover installed this elevator. They should’ve made it traction in the first place. It’s a 7-story parking garage, are they that stupid?

  23. elev8m8 says:

it did the same thing with the Dover at the Memorial Hospital CA the motor was on but it stayed in L1 I wonder why?

  24. myotismon767 says:

I’ve seen a couple of new Otis hydraulic elevators that do that. It sounds like they’re about to go up but they don’t go anywhere and all you hear is the hydraulic motor. I’d like to find out why they do that.
