Trying out the HD video recording capability of my new Sony T90 digital camera (Cybershot). The camera is an ultra compact alternative to compact camcorders such as the Flip Mino, Panasonic SDR-S26 (with ultra zoom), Sony Webbie, and the like. So far I found that although the video is HD it is not full high definition but still better than standard definition. The T90 shoots video at 1280X720 pixels at 30 fps versus full HD 1920X1080 pixels. My early experience with the T90 is that the …

I did use editing software to cut out extra scenes such as turning the camera on and off and such, also added music to the end, but didn’t change the aspect ratio or the format (MP4). As far as I know what you see in this video is what the T90 recorded. Hope this helps.

how did you get it to be widescreen?, did you edit it in an editing software, or did it just upload like this? get back to me pleaseee x

lol, well the new samsung dual view can!! haha

  4. joefileman says:

LOL. I don’t think even my camcorder can do that!

Thanks Joe, I was also wondering if you are able to pause in the middle of recording and then continue. :D

  6. joefileman says:

The Sony T90 can zoom in/out while filming.

im planning on buying this camera, but i heard that you cannot zoom in/out while filming. Is this true?

    Thanks. Great Informational Vid 5/5

It does. The auto focus is nearly as good and fast as my camcorder, a Sony DCR-SR200, but this camera actually produces better video but has less features (less zoom, no infrared, etc).

    Does it focus really good?

Thanks so much. I ended up purchasing Sony vegas movie studio HD. So I hope it works good with vista :) . Thanks

I use Windows Vista (which I’m not too big a fan of) but my Windows Movie Maker (and Player) recognizes MP4. It didn’t used to though but I installed some codecs and it started to work. The codec/s installation is shady at the least and not recommended for the casual computer user.

I upload MP4 to YouTube without problems. In fact I think YouTube prefers MP4. I recommend buying a good video editing software. I use an old version of Pinnacle Studio Plus which runs pretty bad on Vista. xD

Im not electronically intelligent and cant seem to edit my videos in Windows Movie Maker. It dosent recognize Mpeg4 files. I also cant upload these video files straight to youtube?! Any ideas why? Thanks

Out of the box I believe it just has the built in mic and it is mono.

Thanks for posting. Does it have left and right RCA audio inputs?

I would be using it to capture my music band’s live performance and would like to run the left and right audio outputs from my mixer…directly into the camcorder’s line input.

Is this possible or does it only allow to record sound from its built in mic?

    Thanks again

2 years ago YouTube use to hate MPEG4, The conversion wasn’t that great. It appears that their new encoders found the sweet spot finally!
Before, QuickTime use to give me good results. Now I have the best results for YouTube rendering to .wmv but I will have to try MPEG4 again and see how that goes. The SD to HD conversion I already knew about but it’s good to post it up here in case it can help someone who is wondering.
    Thanks for your time!

I kept it as MP4/mpeg4 (HD). From experience, MP4 is the best for YouTube after trying AVI, WMV and MP2 (mpeg2). A tip I have that I believe YouTube also explained in their help pages is not to render your videos in a higher quality than what the video camera produced e.g. don’t render HD from a standard definition camcorder’s output.

  17. LRCProductionsUS says:

    oh ok.
just one more quick question, what format did you output your final render to?
    it looks good on YouTube!

  18. joefileman says:

Pinnacle Studio Plus 10. I like it except that it has been crashing ever since I switched to Windows Vista; had very few problems while on XP but 10 is an old version. I should probably upgrade; version 12 is the latest.

  19. LRCProductionsUS says:

hey what editing software did you use to edit this video? it outputs at good quality!

Nice the quality is awesome :)

You can zoom in and out while recording video with the Sony T90 – something I learned that was not available in at least some of the previous Cybershot digital camera models.

  22. shortNDsassy21 says:

does the camera zoom when in video mode?

  23. joefileman says:

Hmm. I just checked that video again there’s something really messed up with the HD resolution. I wonder if you had the camera at the right settings or maybe YouTube doesn’t like the MOV format. I learned that YT really likes MP4 (mpeg-4). My old Sony Handycam camcorder records using MP2 (mpeg-2) and switching/converting it to MP4 before uploading helps a lot! Give it a try!

Actually it looks great now that the HD finished processing. I didn’t realize it was so recently uploaded when I first watched it. Our video “asian vs jew” was filmed with the zi6.

  25. joefileman says:

LOL. It takes a while but I think the video finally made it to HD. :) Which YT video did you use the Zi6?
