The Sony Ericsson Cybershot range of camera mobile phones has today swelled to include a new 5.0 megapixel handset, the new Sony Ericsson C902 is the latest in a long line of camera focussed phones form the manufacturer and follows in the footsteps of many previous models that broke the mould of phones with cameras.

The Sony C902 has been made avialable on O2 contract deals in the UK and is already available as a free handset when consumers agree to sign up to either an 18 or 12 month contract, retailers are even offering free gifts with the Sony Ericsson C902 at this early stage by using their left over network commissions.

The manufacturer has only produced one other mobile phone to feature a 5.0 megapixel camera in the past, this being the Sony K850i which was released in 3 colour variants, a blue, green and silver version which in this handsets case actually related to coloured accents rather than the overall colour of the exterior casing.

This step away from the K-Series range which has always been applied to Cybershot phones makes complete sense as the manufacturer has now turned to releasing C-Series handsets in line with the ‘C’ in Cybershot, an easy transition but perhaps a little delayed?

The Sony Ericsson C902 is branded with the Cybershot name, and the 5.0 megapixel camera offers auto focus and face recognition software. Sony Ericsson has placed shortcuts to the most helpful camera shortcuts around the screen of the phone which can be touched to access things like zoom, flash and effects. These touch sensitive icons can quickly enable you to select the shortcut you need, for example turning on the flash or enabling macro mode. The C902 also supports HSDPA Mobile Broadband, has an FM radio with RDS support and Bluetooth 2.0.

The Sony Ericsson C902 is also a 3G enabled phone allowing for face to face video calling with compatible handsets aswell as fast download speeds of movie trailers, news and sports reports and new mobile content such as games, ringtones, music and videos.

The biggest difference betwen the older K850 and the new C902 is that Sony Ericsson have put some real thought into protecting teh high quality lens, users can now use a slide feature to open and capture cover the lens whien not in use, a feature that other manufacturers should really take notice of. It is a basic problem that after owning a mobile phone for some time teh exposed lens gets clogged with all manner of grit and dust purely as there is no cover protecting it.

The C902 has been initially releasedon O2 in the UK but further network rollouts are expected very soon, in particular onto the Orange network which will double the amount of tariffs on offer and make finding the correct package for a consumers usage requirements that much easier.

The Sony Ericsson C902 is due to be released in a further red casing at some point in the near future by Vodafone, although there is no official launch date at present the network has added the red edition to their coming soon pages on their website.

The Cybershot range of camera focussed mobile phones has expanded to include a new 5.0 megapixel handset, the Sony Ericsson C902 is the latest in a long line of camera orientated devices from the manufacturer but this time they have broken with an old tradition.

Previously, all Cybershot mobile phones were given a model name beginning with ‘K’, for example the K850i or K810i, but this time Sony Ericsosn have decided run with a ‘C’ in from of the name which makes perfect sense as they all fall under the Cybershot branding.

The latest Sony C902 was first released in the UK just days ago on both O2 and Orange networks and only alongside 12 and 18 month contract deals, however, now this new high specification handset has been launched on the only ddicated 3G network in the UK, 3 Mobile.

The advantages of this new network release are summed up in what a consumer can get for their monthly line rental charges, 3 Mobile network offers far more inclusive free minutes and text messages than any other network and only 3G enabled devices are launched.

This means that consumers not only benefit from value for money, important in these days of the credit crunch and consumer confidence but they also own a 3G enabled handset which allows them to communicate in a number of different ways.

Most importantly, 3G video calling where customers can make and recieve ‘live’ video calls to other 3G enabled handsets and actually see and hear the person they are speaking with, this service opens doors to many new possibilities including virtual tours and on a lighter note a lot of fun.

3G services also allow fro much faster download speeds compared with GPRS phones, sometimes up to 10 times faster making watching movies and video clips a far more entertaining experience plus quick download times of new mobile content such as applications, ringtones, games and music.

The Sony Ericsson C902 offers the most advanced camera yet to evolve from Sony’s Cyber-Shot mobile phone range. Although the general aesthetics of the handset are relatively similar to its predecessors such as the K850i and K810i, this is where family resemblance ends, as the Sony C902 is an entity in itself.

Craftily contained within an ultra stylish, glossy black casing, the Sony C902 measures only 10.5mm thick, which is exceptional workmanship given the technology levels condensed within. The Sony C902 is very much a master of trades, and jack of none, as the camera, MP3, radio, and additional technologies all deliver exceptional quality.

Mobile phone wise, the Sony C902 excels as a handset capable of huge scope and appeal, as music lovers, technology enthusiasts, and photographers alike will find pleasure in this handset. Ultimately though, the 5 mega-pixel cyber-shot camera is the main feature and rightly so given the new image stabiliser, auto-focus and increased pixel count quality.

An important design improvement over previous Sony Ericsson Cybershot models is the introduction of a sliding lens cover that will protect the camera lens from dust and dirt when closed and not in use, on openeing this slide the handset instantly engages the camera function for qiuck picture and video capture.

The Sony Ericsson C902 ticks all of the right boxes for photography enthusiasts and mobile phone lovers alike and the good news is that the handset is due to be offered on even more UK networks in the near future.
